On the side of every Jordan shoebox are the
words, "a portion of the proceeds from the purchase
of JORDAN products support educational initiatives.”
The
Jordan Fundamentals Grant program earmarked 200
Fundamentals grants for teachers impacted directly
by hurricanes Rita and Katrina. Two seventh grade
math teachers, Michael Cox and Shauna Hedgepeth,
applied for the grant during the summer. They were
notified on September 15th that each would each
receive $2500 by the end of October for the ideas
they had to improve Oak Grove Middle School after
last year's hurricanes.
Mr. Cox is using the grant money to build a math
resource library for our middle school teachers. Ms.
Hedgepeth is buying graphing calculators and
calculator-based labs to help teach the math and
science behind the hurricane.
Jordan Fundamentals has been extended for an
additional 4 years through 2009. Next year's
teachers can apply
here. The regular Jordan Fundamentals Grant has
restrictions based on the population of free and
reduced lunch. A list of the 2006 grant winners will
be available at a later date at:
