2007-2008:
New Year,
New People,
New Buildings
A vast amount of movement and renovations
occurred during the short time that students were
out for summer break. With the upper elementary
moving into new facilities, Oak Grove Middle School
has been given their former buildings and offices.
Two of these buildings, the 'E' & 'F' buildings,
have been renovated and are housing 8th grade students and
teachers. New 8th grade offices have been
established in the newly painted 'E' building.
15 new classrooms have been established mostly in
what was formerly Oak Grove Upper Elementary.
A new, larger nurses station has
been established in the main office suites. The band hall has been moved
back to its original location behind the gymnasium.
The area that used to be the band hall will now
serve as a locker room/field house which gives
separate areas now for seventh and eighth grades.
There are 13
new teachers and assistants on our campus in
addition to our returning staff.
Teachers this
year will be utilizing an online grade book program
that interfaces with our current student databases.
Parents will be able to logon to the system and view
their children's progress at any time. Every
grade now has a science laboratory for conducting
experiments and participating. When
all renovations and remodeling are complete in the
coming year, Oak Grove Middle School will encompass
the entire set of schools and expansions of
the original Oak Grove Attendance Center.
Lamar County Schools are one of the fastest growing
school districts in Mississippi with over 7000
students county-wide and almost 1100 alone here at
OGMS. |
