August 7, 2008 declared the end of summer
vacation for OGMS students. This year approximately
130 new students and 17 new faculty members joined
in the excitement. Mr. Terry Ingram has been named
head honcho of OGMS while Dr. Ben Burnett is
enjoying his position as superintendent of Lamar
County.
Changes are arising in the Lamar County School
District. Lunch prices have increased by twenty five
cents for 2008-09 school year, because gas prices
are going up! up! up!
This year the OGMS handbook has been revised and
new rules put into place on the first day of school.
For example, if a student receives three unexcused
absences, the student will be sent to youth court.
This was put into place to by the new judge to
decrease Mississippi's drop out rates. Walking
shorts are now allowed to be five inches above the
knee. Boys' shirts can only go down to the wrist, or
the shirt has to be tucked in.
The buses were the main problem on the first day
of school. “Cars were backed up to the first stop
sign on highway 24-HORRIFIC!”stated Mrs. Arlene
Barefoot, Oak Grove's car rider director and 8th
grade teacher.
New 8th grade English/history teacher Casey
Borden said," I love being at Oak Grove. It's a
wonderful place to be.” Everyone is looking forward
to a brand new year as Oak Grove Middle School is
going for the gold!!! |
