OGMS School Goals
2005-2006

Goal:

Develop better student/teacher relationships by concentrating on effective classroom management.

Activities:

Research, prepare and present new OGMS classroom management plan, implement plan

Evaluation:

Meet goals of new management plan

Goal:

Form a "reading club" with staff to share new educational research and ideas

Activities:

Volunteer staff members will agree to read a new book each nine weeks, share ideas as a group at the end of each nine weeks

Evaluation:

Have 25% of staff involved, implement one new concept/idea from research

Goal:

Improve instruction through application of brain-based learning research

Activities:

Review training of cadre from last year, have new staff development training for all staff this year

Evaluation:

100% of staff will implement one instructional concept EACH DAY that is supported by brain-based learning research.

Goal:

Work in collaborative academic teams to improve and CELEBRATE learning.

Activities:

New academic teams will meet 2 times a month, faculty will be trained in the material of Professional Learning Communities, strategies will be devised to help students who are having academic trouble

Evaluation:

Failures will decrease by 50%

Goal:

Stop student harassment

Activities:

Make this a goal of our Youth Crime Watch, encourage students to report this to an adult, document all cases of it, utilize tougher consequences

Evaluation:

By the end of the year, have a reduction of 50% of harassment cases, administer a student survey at  end of year to  measure student opinion of the effectiveness of our efforts

Goal:

Improve Crisis Management Plan and safety/security awareness

Activities:

School safety committee will train staff on crisis plan, drills will be conducted on a monthly basis

Evaluation:

50% of staff will be trained in CPR, safety drills will be conducted every month with an evaluation of their effectiveness, employee accidents will decrease by 75%

Goal:

Explore the benefits of using DIFFERENTIATED INSTRUCTION

Activities:

One nine week reading club topic will include Differentiated instruction, staff development sessions will be held in this area.

Evaluation:

By the last nine weeks, 100% of staff will understand the importance of differentiated instruction at the middle level and will have applied it in their instruction

Goal:

Improve Reading and Language skills

Activities:

Identify weak areas in collaborative teams, develop school-wide approach to addressing weaknesses.

Evaluation:

Reduce minimal in Reading and Language to 2% or lower.  Reduce basic in Reading and language to 5% or lower
